Monthly Cake Club - NEW!

Monthly Cake Club - NEW!

Starting on Thursday 25th August 2016, join the Bake Off fever with our new monthly Cake Club!

Taking place on the last Thursday of every month at Odd John's Kitchen in Quorn, bring a cake or a bake based on our monthly theme for a good excuse to share a passion for baking, recipes and tips and most importantly to eat cake!

The first theme for next week is a fruity one! From a fruit crumble, fruit tart to a fruit cake, as long as it is fruity!

All baking skill levels welcomed!

Sign up either at the counter when you next visit us in Quorn or email Danny Murphy at danny@oddjohn.co.uk!

Craftiness is happiness!

Craftiness is happiness!

I love to craft and be creative, so when we organised a needle felting night hosted by the uniquely talented Maggie from Heartfelt I was beyond excited. I was mixing my favourite things, woodland animals, craft and cake. What’s not to love?

A keen crafter myself I have never tried needle felting and I was amazed at how easy it was to pick up. Following a quick demonstration within minutes the ladies were happily creating their own little woodland animal from a selection of patterns that Maggie had brought along. We chatted happily as we worked puzzling at our misshapen clumps of wool as they formed into squirrels, badgers and sheep! Though the rain poured we were cosy in the deli with candles and fairy lights and lots of tea and coffee as we worked.

Maggie was on hand to give expert advice and helpful hints (such as concentrate or you will prick your fingers!) throughout our evening. After a brief coffee stop and a sneaky bit of cake we were off again to finish our creatures before the end of the night. When it was finally time to leave we all had made our own unique felted creature, all of us having a very different finished project! I do love my little squirrel, although his eyebrows are a tad scary and his face is a bit wonky!

The evening was enjoyed by all of the ladies and I am very much looking forward to our next crafty night when we will be making felted birds. I love all things creative and find it therapeutic to make something beautiful which is also completely unique. This night had been fantastic opportunity to relax and learn something new with the lovely Maggie, who also offered a take home kit to those who really caught the felting bug as it is quite addictive!

I can’t wait to plan more craft evenings in the deli, so keep an eye on Facebook events page, our events board in the deli or click here to find out what we are up to next!

Love

WE DID IT! "OJK 2" IS FINALLY OPEN & THANK YOU!!

WE DID IT! "OJK 2" IS FINALLY OPEN & THANK YOU!!

WELL...It's been a wild ride from opening our first "OJK" in September 2016 through to our Kickstarter campaign to help raise finds to bring "OJK 2" to Quorn! After 30 days of appealing to the heart of the community, the crowdfunding campaign finished on an overwhelming high with a grand total of £42,381.00 raised, MASSIVELY going beyond our expectations and exceeding the original target of £16,000!

The team behind the campaign at Odd John & Family Ltd are beyond ecstatic and delighted with the result as we cannot have achieved this without the overwhelming support from the members of public!

So...after much planning, building, creating, training and endless cups of coffee, we are there and doors are open!

We just wanted to say a HUGE heartfelt thank you everyone who has supported us so far especially our Kickstarter pledgers!

National Cream Tea Day - Friday 24th June!

National Cream Tea Day - Friday 24th June!

Whether you put the cream on first and then the jam or vice versa, join us in celebrating this age-old quintessentially British teatime occasion by indulging in a spot of cream tea for two here at Odd John's Kitchen!

We like to think that we know a thing or two about how to best serve cream teas! It is a must to serve it with loose leaf tea whether it is English Breakfast tea or the aromatic & very pretty Earl Grey Blue from no one other than Leicestershire based Forleaves Artisan tea producers!

The scone must then be accompanied by clotted cream and the finest selection of luxury artisan preserves from Nottinghamshire based Queen's Park or Derbyshire based The Quirky Cook! Whilst we love to observe tradition of such an important occasion, we also like to push the boundaries and tempt you to break slightly away (only slightly!!) from tradition with our very interesting selection of curds including passionfruit, blackcurrant to orange & chocolate curd! It is not treason we promise! These lovely jars of sweet indulgence are available to buy from Odd John's Kitchen and take home to be enjoyed at your own leisure and away from judging eyes!

Have we tempted you yet? For just £9.95 per couple, come and join us tomorrow at either Swithland or Quorn and celebrate with the rest of the nation!

To find out more about the history of the cream tea or afternoon tea and the etiquette surrounding this tradition, check out the official Cream Tea Society website here!
